I am the type of personality with duplicates or more of most things: a second pair of glasses, car keys, house keys, cell phone, etc.

When I travel, I have copies of my passport and travel documents, etc. I pay for a provider that backs everything on my computer, software, and notes.

Then, I became complacent about one thing that could seriously affect my business.

![Why Did I get Complacent?](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d8/31/d8312ca8-e1db-4a49-8f7f-d22bfa4c27ee/content/images/2026/08/rs-w-1280.jpeg "Why Did I get Complacent?")

Why Did I get Complacent?

My website provider has been down for 70+ hours! Visitors and clients cannot go to my site to search for homes, read my content or blogs, contact me for information, or add content; any drip email and text are not working, and my SEO will suffer, as currently, I am on the first page on a Google search for 83 of my pages, which I have spent countless hours and years to build!

I do not have a backup of another website!

By the way, this is one of the best real estate websites and CRM providers in North America; some say it is the most expensive (I say the best investment I made in my business), and it is used by the top producers in real estate!

Fortunately for me, I use a secondary CRM with all our contacts and notes so that I can contact them, let them know I am still here, help, and assure them that our website provider is working diligently to restore service.

I have full use of our MLS system and the tools and software that can help them, as well as some tools they can use on their own.

In closing, when you hear of a hospital's data being down, a city or township, a phone provider, etc., how can you back up your ability to communicate and maintain the same level of care and responsibility to your clients?

That is my lesson in complacency.

Do you have one?
